Kids and Music

On the last episode of BuzzCutz, I made an inquiry about today’s local music scene, and where young people figure into it.  My question, or rather my observation, was that kids here seem to want to play metal and not much else.  What happened to everything else (That’s the question.)?

Is the youth of America, or at least the Tri-Cities, so angry that they only play loud, aggressive music that makes you want to pull on your eyeballs and choke on your own tongue?  And when I say that, know that is meant in as complimentary a fashion as possible…but, really, what has happened to playing rock and roll?  When I was a kid, there were all kinds of rock and roll bands, be it Southern rock, country rock, garage rock, Brit rock, schlock rock, or what have you, and it seems that those bands have disappeared forever.  That may be alarmist.  That may be ridiculous and crude.  But, damn it, I want to hear at least a few young guys trying to do something other than strangle the family pet and record it in drop D.

I know they’re out there.  If you are one of those young people trying to do something other than metal, let me know.  I want to know.

That’s about it.  Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks to “If Looks Could Kill”

Special thanks to Johnny Six-Gun and Tim Anti Hero for their time yesterday as they were the first band interviewed on BuzzCutz. Their band, “If Looks Could Kill” recently signed a contract with the Indie label, Harlot Records and they are working on their first CD project with a tour planned for the first of the year.

The guys drove down from Bristol and Emory, VA to be with us and we had a great time talking about their adventures at last weekend’s ‘Rockin’ On The River,’ the local music scene and their attitudes toward their music and their destiny.

As far as I was concerned, I wish I was 22 and getting ready for my first tour. These guys have a slick sound and we’ll look forward to hearing what they bring about with the new CD.

This was our third Buzzcutz Podcast and we had lots of fun. Thanks guys for coming downtown to be on our show.

You can check out “If Looks Could Kill” on their Myspace website located here.

Buzzcutz - Week Number 2

We finished the Buzzcutz Podcast 002 yesterday and have all of the new files online today.

We apologize for the low-end hum this week and suspect our projector that displays our recording software on screen. Those pesky fans can vibrate the heck out of a short mike stand, so we’re looking for upgrades by next week.

Jared has worked on a new introduction and that’s cool and we’ve got a fairly interesting show. We had hoped to interview Pat Carter with Omega Tribe, but that didn’t work out this week, but there’s plenty of lively banter from the Jared, Dave and Tom show with music by Ablazing Grace and Mo Canada.

We were happy to hear from a number of bands and players looking for a spot on Buzzcutz and we’ll be setting up our invitation list this week and appreciate everyone’s feedback. Special hola to Jeff Malone who was listening to the Podcast while he was in the Mojave Desert this week.

Mark has been updating our graphics and we’ve got plenty of new advertising in cue for the next several weeks and a sponsor that will be stepping on board next week.

Show notes are coming up.
