BuzzCutz #025 - The Silver Anniversary Episode

blindsightThomas, Jon, and Matt from Blindsight joined us in the studio this week, and were very happy they did. These guys are clean-cut, shy, and soft-spoken, but when the lights come up and the music starts, they are pure adrenaline and aggression. They come across as very genuine and passionate about what they do, and that conveys in their music as well. Hope everyone enjoys the show - we did.

A grave, a guitar and a tradition of old time mountain music

Clinchfest Site“There’s a grave on a hillside way down in Tennessee.”

So begins another tall-tale sung to the toe-tapping acoustic Mountain Music that’s a cultural heritage here in East Tennessee.

The song’s title, “The Briars, Brambles and Me” is sung by Tennessee Skyline and is the featured song on the new Clinch Mountain Music Festival website we just launched at GoTriCities. It tells the story of a jealous lover who shot his wife and best friend and the only ones who know where they lay are…”the briars, brambles and me.”

I’d like for you to visit our new site. It’s been fun working on this as we’ve been covered up for the past few weeks on several interesting projects, but more important, you might win a custom-made treasure - An A.P. Carter Acoustic Guitar. [Read more →]

Interview with The Catbird Seat @ The Down Home

Great music with silky humble style…

BuzzCutz #024 - The “All Day” Episode

tarnishedTarnished is a rock band from Johnson City that is picking up quite a following and working on their second CD. Saad Al-Ameri and Ed Williams are two of the members, and they paid us a visit this week just in time to critique a local eatery, praise a local recording studio, and promote their upcoming agenda. Their company was graciously welcomed by Tom and I, as Dave took the day to catch up on his massive workload.

A fun time was had by all, and we hope you enjoy the show.

Torrents of rock with Ablazing Grace in Bristol

Pat CarterThere’s always been something special about Bristol. In Northeast, Tennessee this town has the most vibrant downtown scene in the Tri-Cities and I always enjoy hanging here on the weekend to hear great live music by local bands and musicians.

A few weeks ago, I made the trip in the rain to catch Ablazing Grace at O’Mainians pub and even though there was a downpour, State Street was radiant as the street lights and neon melted into a dazzling display on the street that separates two states. The night was early and we had planned on an interview with the band and before the night was over we had a great time and experienced a hell-ova rock-and-roll show from these hard-core artists. BuzzCutz #023 - The Almost St. Patty’s Day Episode

neverwills

This week’s show brought us closer to the first days of spring, and forced us to pop a window open in the studio, where Tom had started to burn to death. The fellas from the Neverwills didn’t sweat it, however, as they joined us for a lively conversation and a send-off for their Navy-bound drummer Tyler Humphries - good luck and best wishes, young man. Jerry Shoemaker and Josh Tipton let us know what is in the future for the band and its members, and we got to listen to their last album, which is top-notch.

Looking forward to the new Neverwills EP that is in the works? Keep an ear out and we’ll let you know how it’s going. Until then, sit back and enjoy the interview.

Also on this week’s show, we took a moment to pay our respects to Marky Rhodes. There is a benefit show to raise money for his funeral tonight (March 7) at the CrowBar, and another on hand for next week (March 15) at the Hideaway. It is very sad to see a young local musician pass so early in his life, and tragedies like this seem to bring out the best in the music community. Kudos to all that have stepped forward to help out at this time. Best wishes to all affected by this loss, and to all involved with the shows.

Blogatonic Pervasive Ideological Maneuvers in the Dark (TM)

How does one decide to name a band? What name fits best? Is it as important as I think it might be, or just a word that helps associate with the music? Who knows the answers? Did I leave the iron on?

My band mates and I have to come up with a good name, and I’m making tomorrow the deadline. Because we made last week the deadline but still didn’t really come up with anything. So, tomorrow it is. Unless we still don’t come up with anything. [Read more →]
