2009 Big Fall Show to feature vocal group TenBucsWorth Bystaff report
The 2009 Big Fall Show featuring the ETSU men’s vocal group TenBucsWorth will be presented Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. at the Martha Street Culp Auditorium at East Tennessee State University.
This annual concert is a benefit for the ETSU Chorale to raise funds for its international concert tours. Last year the chorale traveled to France and Spain and performed in major cathedrals.
TenBucsWorth will perform traditional Southern gospel music made famous by groups such as the Gaither Vocal Band and Signature Sound. In addition to gospel favorites such as “Oh, What a Time” and “Swing Down, Chariot,” the group will perform songs made popular by the group Il Divo such as “Unchained Melody” and “You Raise Me Up.”
They will be joined by three new women’s groups that formed this fall. The Priceless Ladies will perform hits by Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner including “Respect” and “Proud Mary.” These fully choreographed and staged numbers will be accompanied by an instrumental jazz ensemble of ETSU students.
Choreography for these numbers is being created by Beverly Wiginton, the original choreographer for the ETSU Jazz Singers. The other new women’s groups that will appear are the ETSU Sweet Adelines, who will perform songs in the traditional barbershop style, and the Sassy Lassies, a Celtic women’s group.
A tradition of the Big Fall Show is a performance by the ETSU Chorale Bluegrass Band, featuring members of the chorale who are also accomplished bluegrass musicians.
The 80-voice ETSU Chorale will end the concert with a medley of American patriotic songs and spirituals.
Tickets are $15 and may be obtained from members of the ETSU Chorale or by calling 439-4276.
